The National Senior Games is the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors. 10,818 male and female athletes from all 50 states, compete in nineteen events. Softball is the largest sport with over 1,765 athletes.

Contestants range in age from 50 to 101, with the average age being 66 years old.

Nineteen events are being held at a variety of venues around Cleveland, Ohio. Competitions are scheduled in archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, softball, race walking, racquetball, road racing, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, triathalon, and volleyball. Bocce ball and disc golf will be held as demonstration sports only.

Running from 19 July to 1 August, 2013, spectators will see participants that previously qualified in their individual state contests. All participants must be a minimum of 50 years old.

With over 7,000 volunteers and 10,818 contestants, this is about the same number of participants as the London 2012 Olympics. The event is being co-produced by National Senior Games Association and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission with major sponsorship by Humana & AstraZeneca.
